PAP/RAC's Contributions at the 10th GEF International Water Conference

The 10th International Water Conference (GEF Biennial International Water Conference) was held in Punta del Este, Uruguay, from September 23-26, 2024. UNEP/MAP was represented by the PAP/RAC Deputy Director, along with colleagues from MedWaves, MEDPOL, and a GEF MedProgramme consultant.

During the conference, PAP/RAC shared key findings from Child Project 2.1 and the SCCF project under the MedProgramme, contributing to lively discussions and interactive sessions. Their insights were particularly impactful during Theme B's "Achieving Policy Coherence from Source to Sea" on day one and Theme F's "Looking into the Future: Ensuring Robustness to Future Challenges" on day four.

In addition to participating in plenary talks, PAP/RAC engaged in workshops and interactive sessions covering various innovative topics. They showcased their work through visually striking posters, focusing on groundwater management, the roles of women in coastal management (the main theme of this year’s Mediterranean Coast Day), climate change adaptation, and advanced methods for assessing land cover changes in low-elevation coastal zones.

IWLearn launched an interactive digital story map featuring stories and videos from 30 successful GEF International Waters projects, including the ongoing MedProgramme and the GEF Adriatic, which was successfully closed in 2020. Explore the map here: https://gef-globe.web.app/

The conference served as a valuable platform for networking and collaboration with institutions and experts from around the world.
