The DesirMED Consortium held its General Assembly in Valencia, Spain, from February 25 to 27, 2025. Funded by HORIZON Europe, the consortium aims to promote climate resilience in the Mediterranean through Nature-based Solutions (NbS). PAP/RAC is one of the 34 partners involved in the initiative, leading efforts to scale and mainstream innovative NbS as part of the Split-Dalmatia cluster.
On the first day of the General Assembly, the focus was on the project's progress. Vicente MartÃnez Mus, the Regional Minister of Valencia, emphasised the urgent need for climate adaptation. Elisa Furlan from CMCC, the project lead, highlighted key achievements, including regional workshops that helped shape transformation pathways. A poster exhibition showcased climate hazards and NbS strategies across the DesirMED regions, with PAP/RAC presenting the Split-Dalmatia poster alongside other regional participants.
The second day featured discussions on synergies with EU projects such as NBRACER, TRANSFORMAR, TRANSEATION, and BlueGreen Governance, identifying opportunities for collaboration. Workshops concentrated on topics like climate governance, financing NbS, resilience strategies, and technical monitoring. Afterwards, attendees participated in a field visit to La Devesa del Saler Natural Park, where they learned about wildfire prevention technologies, including sensor networks, moisture control, and firebreak irrigation.
Additionally, the DesirMED Adaptation Day included extra field visits to dune restoration sites and wetlands in the Albufera area, highlighting the importance of nature-based strategies for coastal protection and ecosystem restoration.
The Assembly also outlined essential steps to achieve project milestones planned for the upcoming implementation period.
