The First Meeting of the Steering Committee for the EU-funded EcAp MED PLUS Project took place on 26 February 2025 in Athens, Greece, organized by the UNEP/MAP Secretariat. The meeting brought together representatives from Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, the European Commission (DG ENV), MAP Components (SPA/RAC, PAP/RAC, Info/RAC, MED POL, Plan Bleu), and the UNEP/MAP Coordinating Unit.
The meeting had the objective to assess progress, review updates to the Work Plan and Budget, and discuss the Communication and Visibility Plan for 2025-2026. Participants acknowledged the efforts made in preparing the legal instruments with MAP and emphasized the need to finalize the remaining Funding Agreements with beneficiary countries as soon as possible.
During the session, the Steering Committee approved the revised project work plan, budget, and communication/visibility plan. Notably, PAP/RAC is leading project activities in Morocco and Lebanon. While the legal framework is already in place for Lebanon, discussions are ongoing in Morocco to align activities with other related projects and national priorities.
Looking ahead, the Second Steering Committee Meeting will be held in March-April 2026, in conjunction with the SEMPA and Marine Litter MED PLUS Project Steering Committees.
