In order to build national capacities for monitoring of the land cover change, a training has been organized in Tunis from the 13 to the 15 February 2024 in the framework of the child project 2.1 of the MedProgramme.
The objectives of the training were to present and discuss the process of calculating LCC indicator according to the latest update of the methodology; to review results visualization, quality control and validation; to discuss the potentials of the LCC assessment for coastal planning and management; and to present the vulnerability studies developed in the framework of the MedProgramme. Participants to the training included representatives from APAL, from the National Agency for Environmental Protection, from the National Institute for Statistics, from the National Institute for the Sciences and Technologies from the Sea, and from the Ministry of Environment. The training was divided in 2 main parts: one dedicated to the GIS experts calculating the indicator and another part for those using the information of the land cover change for planning and management of the coastal zone.
But the multistakeholder consultation was also an opportunity for the PAP/RAC team and for the participants among them to be updated with the progress at the national level, and with all the work achieved by APAL related to the follow up from changes in the coastal zone by satellite.
