Between the beginning of September and the end of October 2022, 4 training courses on ICZM and MSP were organized by the GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit - German Agency for International Development Cooperation) in Algeria in the wilayas of Aïn Temouchent, Annaba , Skikda and Algiers. To do this, GIZ had requested the assistance of PAP/RAC to develop training materials. PAP/RAC had therefore made available the educational material of the MedOpen platform, which was enriched by the trainers for the needs of these sessions.
Between 23 and 26 October, a representative of PAP/RAC was invited to participate in the training in Algiers which was intended for the inter-ministerial committee responsible for the implementation of the national ICZM strategy for Algeria. As the Director of Biodiversity at the Ministry of the Environment, Mr. Raouf Hadj Aissa, recalled, PAP/RAC supported the Ministry during the development of the first national strategy between 2010 and 2015. This strategy has now been updated by the Ministry and GIZ, which have been very successful in capitalizing on the results of the first strategy.
October 24 was devoted to a fun activity: the “MSP challenge” game offered to PAP/RAC by UNESCO-IOC and made available by the PAP/RAC representative. Divided into two groups, the participants were able to plan the maritime space of three fictitious countries and thus familiarize themselves with the different challenges of the activity.
By making the MedOpen material available, PAP/RAC was happy to contribute to the training of 200 people, and thanks GIZ for this initiative, which once again proves how useful it is to capitalize on existing knowledge.
