Mediterranean Coast day celebration in Croatia concluded with the award ceremony!

Mediterranean Coast day celebration in Croatia concluded with the award ceremony!

On the UN World Children’s Day an award ceremony was organized for the winners of the literary and art competition for the elementary-school children. This day was chosen to emphasize one of the children’s rights – a right to a healthy and safe environment. Out of about 200 applications that arrived from all parts of Croatia, 19 prizes were awarded to the authors of the best works. A jury composed of Mr. Nebojša Lujanović, famous Croatian writer, Ms Hana Letica, artist and the art school teacher, and Ms Željka Škaričić, PAP/RAC director, selected the best works. The winning stories and illustrations were published in the booklet, one of the prizes that all winners received from the PAP/RAC director and the Prefect of the Split-Dalmatia County.

The program was enriched by the beautiful performance of a poem “Good as a child” by Maris Žuvela, 9 year old pupil from the island of Hvar who came to Split despite a very strong wind to take her award for both story and for illustration. Ms Zrinka Cvitešić, a famous Croatian actress, one of the Ambassadors of the Coast, members of the jury and several winners and their teachers addressed the audience, some of them live and others online. For the ceremony permission was granted by the City’s puppets theatre to use beautiful songs from the play “Sea from the closet” composed to the texts on the poems of one of the best known Croatian poets, Jakša Fiamengo. The event was closed with a big thanks to all the children, their teachers, parents and all partners that helped make this competition and this event a true success story. Special thanks go to Croatia partners: Split – Dalmatia County, NGO Petit Philosophy from Zadar and the Centre for Integrative Bioethics, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split.

The event was broadcasted live, and is available at: https://youtu.be/yagzq6GMuG4
