Cyprus advances climate change adaptation with NbS

The Department of Environment of the Republic of Cyprus hosted a conference on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for coastal adaptation and mitigation to climate change on October 24, 2024, as part of the Pandoteira project. The event focused on the use of NbS to address climate change impacts on various types of coastal areas.

The primary aim of the conference was to raise awareness and share knowledge among Pandoteira project partners, relevant authorities, coastal municipalities, researchers, NGOs, and other stakeholders about the importance of coastal climate adaptation. Special emphasis was placed on the role of NbS in these efforts. Additionally, the conference highlighted the need for implementing the provisions of the Protocol for Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) and urged stronger efforts to ratify the ICZM Protocol in Cyprus.

Over 70 delegates attended the conference, gaining insights from a diverse range of speakers and rich discussions. Among the contributions, PAP/RAC presented their work on developing Guidelines for NbS in Adapting to Climate Change in Different Coastal Typologies of the Mediterranean.
