Within the framework of the Mediterranean co-operation days the Final Conference of the Coastgap project, which was organised by the Lazio region, took place in Rome, on 11 November 2014. The objective of the project was to capitalise on the best practices in climate change adaptation to produce governance and adaptation policies in order to reduce risk along the coastal zones and foster sustainable development. One of the best practices included also the results of the Shape project and outputs produced by PAP/RAC and its partners, such as those related to the implementation of the ICZM Protocol and Article 8 on the definition of the setback zone in particular. The morning sessions were devoted to MSP and blue growth scenarios in the Mediterranean, and to discussions on perspectives for the implementation of the Joint Action Plan – Developing conditions for sustainable growth in the Mediterranean.
PAP/RAC had a role of the project External Quality Advisor and contributed already during the project implementation phase by participating to the Coastgap meetings, and by providing an Audit report of all the activities implemented within the project framework. At the conference PAP/RAC major results of the Audit report as well as perspectives for the future co-operation in the Mediterranean were presented in the morning session. The afternoon was devoted to the workshops and the presentations and discussions on the Joint Action Plan proposals. The presentation on Article 8 of the ICZM Protocol, i.e. the implementation of the setback zone was given at the workshop on "Sustainable use of strategic resources for the blue growth of the Med coasts". The contributions of PAP/RAC were well received and enriched substantially the conference programme.
