The Inception Conference for the CAMP Italy project took place in the premises of the Regional park of Porto Conte in Alghero, Sardinia, on 12 November 2014. Representatives of all the three Italian regions participating in the project, namely, Emilia Romagna, Sardinia and Toscana, as well as representatives of different authorities and MAP components (INFO/RAC and PAP/RAC) attended the meeting. The morning session was chaired by Mr. G. Leone, MAP Co-ordinator, who emphasised the importance of the CAMP for the Mediterranean region and its role for the implementation of the Barcelona Convention and its protocols, in particular the ICZM Protocol. The participants were also addressed by the ex-CAMPs’ co-ordinators who underlined the elements of major importance for the implementation of the CAMP which were given by a virtual means from Montenegro, Morocco, Slovenia and Spain.
This event was the opportunity to present the CAMP Italy project, its objectives, activities and expected results. The partners from the involved regions introduced the horizontal activities that involve co-ordination and dissemination, capacity building, data collection and management and institutional co-ordination and public participation, as well as the individual activities for all the five project areas. The project is important not only for solving of the immediate problems of coastal areas of the three involved regions but for its contribution to the national level as well. Moreover, this project is also meant to enhance networking with other CAMPs and provide an excellent opportunity for all MAP components to work closely during its implementation. The projects is envisaged to be concluded by early summer 2016. For a regularly update on the project implementation, please, consult the web site: www.camp-italy.org .
