2013 Coast Day in Split

21.09.2013

Host of PAP/RAC, instigator of the Mediterranean Coast Day celebration, Split, has marked this important day this year as well. On September 21, the event was organised on the newest part of the city waterfront, in front of the Town Hall. Glorious sunshine attracted a lot of people to take a walk and enjoy the rich programme. Kindergarten children had a play about the need to protect the sea and the beaches and not to pollute the environment. Elementary school children showed their concern about the effects of the sea pollution on sea flora and fauna, especially endangered species. A group of high-school students presented the results of their study of three beaches of Split, with a brief historic overview, the current situation and problems, and their suggestions for improvement. There was also a children’s choir who regaled the audience with their songs. The near-by sailing club organised a regatta for their juniors, and the winners were awarded during the event. Along with entertainment, the visitors could taste ecologically produced fruit and vegetables, fruit juices, honey, etc. Our Centre used the opportunity to promote its work and the activities of the SHAPE project, and distributed some promotional materials prepared for the occasion.
