The first edition of the Sea-Level Rise Conference took place on October 17-18, at the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista of Venice, a centuries-old institution at the heart of one of Europe's foremost coastal cities challenged by sea-level rise. The Conference brought together about 300 researchers, stakeholders and policy professionals that exchanged on regional to local sea-level change in Europe. The conference was organized by the Knowledge Hub on Sea-level Rise, a joint effort between JPI Climate and JPI Oceans, in collaboration with its Italian partners and with endorsement by the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. PAP/RAC representative provided a MAP prospective related to the sea-level rise and informed about Mediterranean challenges and potential contributions.
The Knowledge Hub on Sea-Level Rise is a networking platform promoting the generation, synthesis, exchange and integration of knowledge on local, regional and global, historic and future sea-level rise. It aims to support the development and implementation of related policies at local, national and European level facilitating the interaction between research and policy professionals with different disciplinary backgrounds and expertise to enable policy makers to make well-informed decisions regarding protective and adaptive measures.
This conference is to contribute to the first assessment report, as well as to the previous on-line workshops and the stakeholder assessments, which will hopefully provide easy access to usable knowledge for policy makers along major ocean basins around Europe, including our Mediterranean Sea.
