On October 20th a Kick off Conference of the EU Interreg Italy – Croatia project CREATE was held in Split, under the slogan „CREATE the future we need“.
The event was organised by IOF, assisted by PAP/RAC, Split Dalmatia County and EIHP and hosted by the Mediterranean Institute for Life Research (Medils). A Conference brought together Croatian and Italian partners, experts from scientific institutes and universities, local, regional and national governments, and the representatives of NGOs. The objective was to exchange the latest scientific findings, as well as the good practices interesting for replication in the next EU programming period.
During four sessions, starting from the coastal planning and management, through nature-based solutions and potential financing opportunities to the adaptation measures contributing to mitigation, more than 20 panelists from Croatia and Italy took the stage. More than 100 participants (live + hybrid presence) attended the conference and enriched the event with their comments and ideas. Three key words were present throughout the discussion: integration – participation and governance.
The participants agreed that such conferences are essential for climate action and should be organised more often.
