Workshop on Urban Water Management

Last week a workshop was organised in Barcelona based on the recently published Guidelines on Integrated Coastal Urban Water Planning in Coastal Areas of the Mediterranean. Held on December 9-11, the Workshop was hosted by the Catalan Water Agency (Agencia Catalana de Agua/Agència Catalana de l'Aigua - ACA) who generously offered their meeting room. Ten Mediterranean countries sent their representatives to this most interesting workshop, who were highly motivated and participated actively in the work. The Workshop was moderated by Mr. G. Kallis, principal author of the Guidelines, who was assisted in the lectures and group work by Mr. J. Margeta, one of the authors, and Messrs. D. Sauri and G. Gamboa of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Within the programme of the Workshop a visit was organised to the Barcelona Desalination Plant which was then used as the example for exercise in practical application of the tools offered by the Guidelines. There was a general consensus that the Workshop was very successful and that the participants would benefit from it in their future work.
