As envisaged by the convention signed with the European Commission, an international conference on sustainable tourism was held in Casablanca (Morocco), on November 24-25, 2009. The conference, which was organised by PAP/RAC in collaboration with the Moroccan partner - SEEE/DE/DSPR, was attended by some 60 participants coming from eleven Mediterranean countries and several international institutions. The main objective of the conference was to share with the actors from the tourism sector the project results, and especially the strategic guidelines for sustainable tourism in the project areas (Tipasa in Algeria, Al Hoceima in Morocco and Cap Bon in Tunisia), and the Guidelines for sustainable investments in tourism proposed by WWF. The conference was also an occasion to present initiatives taken by other international bodies in the field of sustainable tourism, and to consider the possibilities of distributing the experience through the Mediterranean basin. Finally, the directors of the three pilot hotel structures (the tourist centre "Corne d'Or" at Tipasa, hotel "Mohammed V" at Al Hoceima and hotel "Africa Jade Thalasso" at Korba) signed, in the presence of the participants, the environmental policies, which they accepted to follow in the European eco-labelling process started within the "Destinations" project.
We would like to thank the Moroccan partner for the excellent organisation of the conference, as well as all those who accompanied us in the implementation of this complex and demanding, and at the same time, very motivating project!
