The on-line workshop on governance of coastal wetlands was organized by PAP/RAC in close collaboration with MedWet on 16 September 2022. The main objective was to present the results gathered from the application of the Self-Assessment and Planning tool for the governance of Mediterranean coastal wetlands. The Tool makes an integral part of the Handbook prepared in the previous phase of the project. The workshop provided an opportunity for exchanging knowledge among coastal wetland managers and finding synergies to take in consideration a more coherent and integrated strategy for the governance related issues.
The participants first discussed the results of the application of the Tool in several coastal wetlands. In the second part of the workshop an interactive ‘voting’ tool was used to allow participants to express opinion on the three major elements of the governance namely, inclusiveness and who should run the process; key skills and responsibilities; and legitimacy and transparency.
