The 5th Global Conference on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands, hosted by UNESCO and the Government of France, was held in Paris, on 3-7 May 2010. The Conference provided the major opportunity for all sectors of the global oceans community, namely, governments, international agencies, NGOs, industry, and scientific groups to address the major policy issues affecting the oceans at global, regional, and national levels and to make progress in advancing the global oceans agenda. This year the topics of the conference were gathered around three key works, ensuring survival, preserving life and improving governance. The conference was divided into three parts: Policy, Science and Technical Symposium, High Level Roundtables and Working Group Meetings, and Policy Conference.
PAP/RAC actively participated to the panel discussions organised during the Technical Symposium, and in particular at the session on ICZM: Time to upscale, and Sharing experiences in developing ICZM Protocols: Mediterranean and Western Indian Ocean perspectives. Both events were organised by the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI, France).
GOC 2010 was an opportunity to celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity 2010, as well as the 50th Anniversary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC UNESCO).
