The SHAPE project partners met in Bari, Italy, first, to contribute to the MEDITERRE 2012 international conference and second, to discuss the progress and administrative issues related to the project itself. Various project activities and topics were presented at the conference organised by the Apulia Region. The PAP/RAC presentation focused on the major requirements of the ICZM Protocol, the Action Plan for its implementation and in particular on the analysis of the ICZM practice in the Adriatic.
The second day was devoted to working sessions of the SHAPE itself. Due to the extremely unfavourable weather conditions in the Emilia-Romagna region, the Lead Partner could not attend and the Steering Committee meeting had to be postponed. The partners discussed technical issues and concrete activities important for the implementation of the project. The PAP/RAC representatives presented the progress report to date and in particular the contributions expected by other partners in WP3. A presentation on Article 8 of the ICZM Protocol on the coastal setback was given which was followed by a discussion.
With the activities aimed at the implementation of the ICZM Protocol, namely, the analysis of the ICZM practice, promoting MSP, awareness raising and training components, and in particular the pilot actions, the Adriatic is hopefully getting a new “shape“.
