13.02.2012

The representatives of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols met at their 17th Ordinary Meeting in Paris, on 8-10 February 2012. A long list of decisions important for the functioning of MAP, including the biennium work programme and its budget, was adopted.

With regard to PAP/RAC, an important milestone related to the ICZM Protocol was the approval of the Action Plan (AP) for the implementation of the Protocol. This strategic document will guide the Parties and the whole MAP structure in the period 2012-2019 in the implementation of the priorities set for in this AP. The ICZM and the ecosystem approach are the two main priorities for the Parties in the current biennium. This is also stressed in the Paris Declaration that was adopted at this meeting as well.

At the meeting venue, PAP/RAC organised an exhibition of the major on-going ICZM projects already supporting the implementation of the AP. These are the Pegaso, the Shape and the MedPartnership-ICZM project, as well as the Coastal Area Management programmes (CAMPs).
