On September 21st, the Ministry of Water Resources and Environment organized, jointly with PAP/RAC, an adoption meeting on Réghaia’s Coastal Plan. The meeting was held at the El Rais hotel, in the town of Ain Taya. Participants of the meeting, including the members of the inter-sectoral committee set up within the framework of this activity, as well as the members of the inter-ministerial committee established under the activity of the National ICZM Strategy for Algeria, had a last opportunity to comment on the suggested actions in the framework of the activity. As pointed out by the participants, this stage of adoption does not mark the end of an activity, but rather the beginning of the implementation of the plan.
It was pointed out that, unlike other plans previously made for this fragile area of Réghaïa, a commission, chaired by the Wali, had been set up, and that this commission had at the same time a working document - the Réghaia’s plan, an institutional tool - the wilaya of Algiers, and an instrument - the decision signed by the Wali, to ensure that the plan would be implemented. In other words, the means are there and it is now a matter of will for the plan to be implemented.
Parallel to the meeting, a pilot action was organized on the El Kaddous beach. With the help of the Coastal Commission, the Agency for the Promotion and Protection of the Coastal Zone, and the National Waste Agency, an operation of dune’s stabilization and beach cleaning took place. Unfortunately, despite the glorious sunshine, the weather did not allow the diving clubs who had been mobilized to clean the seabed to intervene because of a large swell. But this is only a postponement, since in Réghaia: action is for now!
