On March 25 and 26, 2025, a representative from PAP/RAC participated in the "MED2050 Transition Paths" workshop, organized in Dubrovnik by Plan Bleu in collaboration with the French Embassy in Croatia. This event, lasting a day and a half, brought together stakeholders and Croatian experts to discuss transition scenarios for the Mediterranean region by 2050.
The workshop is part of the MED 2050 prospective exercise, launched in 2019 at the request of the signatory countries of the Barcelona Convention. This exercise aims to anticipate the future developments of the Mediterranean over the next three decades, provide insights for a transition to sustainable development, and identify major risks of crises or disruptions.
Notable participants included Ms. Dubravka Šuica, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean. Ms. Šuica emphasized the importance of creating a common agenda centered on citizens and developing partnerships with the Mediterranean region, focusing on areas such as investment, economic stability, energy, transport, security, and migration.
The workshop explored urgent challenges related to ecosystems, sustainability, and regional cooperation. The main objective was to identify action priorities in the short, medium, and long term to guide the region toward a more resilient future. The discussions highlighted the need for enhanced collaboration among Mediterranean actors to ensure ecosystem protection and promote sustainable development in the region.
