SPA/RAC, REMPEC and PAP/RAC together with the UNEP/MAP Coordinating Unit organized the Mediterranean Seminar on Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas (PSSAs), on 10-13 December 2019 in Tirana, Albania. The seminar was chaired by Blendi Klosi, Minister of Tourism and Environment in Albania and attended by UNEP/MAP Deputy Coordinator Tatjana Hema, SPA/RAC Director Khalil Attia, in addition to representatives of SPA/RAC and PAP/RAC, and PSSA experts. The seminar took place within the framework of the PSSA and the pilot MSP projects, which are implemented as a part of the Bilateral Cooperation Agreement between UNEP/MAP and the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea (IMELS). The seminar provided information relevant for the designation of PSSAs, including criteria, processes to be followed and benefits of the PSSA. This has been coupled with information on MSP, including transboundary issues, as well as the governance, policy and technical topics related to Marine Protected Areas and other effective area-based conservation measures in the Mediterranean. More information on the seminar is available at SPA/RAC web-site.
