The 2012 Mediterranean Coast Day central regional celebration will be organised in Split, Croatia by PAP/RAC, as a part of the EU IPA Adriatic SHAPE project, and in collaboration with UNDP’s “Coast” project. The main event will be on September 25 but the activities will be extended over the whole week. The theme of the celebration is “The Voice of the Coast”. The ICZM Protocol and its practical implementation highlights will be presented by the directors, leaders and managers of the Mediterranean coastal programmes and projects.
The host of the event on 25 September will be H.E. Mr. Mihael Zmajloviæ, Minister of Environmental and Nature Protection. The event will be attended by high-level representatives of Croatian authorities as well as a number of distinguished foreign guests, such as Ministers of Environment of various Mediterranean countries, UNEP/MAP and UNDP representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps. Back-to-back with the central celebration, a technical meeting will be organised with the PAP National Focal Points, the day before, on September 24. The day after, on September 26, there will be a joint meeting of the PEGASO, SHAPE and MAREMED projects to share results related to the implementation of the ICZM Protocol and a workshop for the SHAPE partners.
The meeting on 24 September will be a good opportunity to present the SHAPE project to the PAP/RAC Focal Points. The meeting will provide technical inputs for the Coast Day itself and give an overall guidance for the implementation of the ICZM Protocol. The main event on 25 September will be another opportunity to present the project to a wide and diverse audience as described above, but in a more informal way. The joint meeting of the PEGASO, SHAPE and MAREMED projects on 26 September is going to look for better synergies between various projects. In the afternoon of the same day, a workshop on the National ICZM Strategies for the Adriatic countries with a focus on the development of an Outline for the National ICZM Strategies tailored for the Adriatic countries will take place.
On September 28, a gala concert will be organised on Riva (the Split waterfront promenade). The audience will be able to enjoy performances by Oliver Dragojeviæ, one of the most famous Croatian singers and UNDP’s ambassador for the coast, Valentina Fijaèko, soprano, prima donna of the Split National Theatre, and three “klapa” (male vocal groups singing traditional Dalmatian songs). Everybody in Split at time is invited to join us at this concert.
