GNRAC - Excellent knowledge sharing practice in Italy

Sixteen years ago, the National Research Group for Coastal Environment issues (GNRAC) was founded with the objective to promote and disseminate studies on the status, conservation and management of Italian coasts. The group was founded by the experts with long experience in Italian research projects on coastal issues, and today it has more than 250 members, researches, local administrators and professionals in the fields of geology, engineering, geography, ecology and spatial planning.

This group has been organizing summer schools, scientific field trips, workshops and annual conferences. The XVI annual conference will take place in Lecce on April 28-29. At these annual conferences special award is given to the young researchers in the framework of the initiative 3G (Giornata Giovanni GNRAC – Day of GNRAC Youth). GNRAC also has its scientific peer reviewed journal - Studi Costieri, which recently got its 30th issue, a special one dedicated to the Marche Region coast. In addition to all this, pandemic times didn’t stop the GNRAC from sharing experiences. In addition to all, they launched their webinars. More than twenty webinars have been organized during the last two years on different topics.

GNRAC has become a recognized expert hub for coastal issues in Italy. A good example to follow for every coastal country.
