On the occasion of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017, the workshop on “The Present and the Future of Sustainable and Responsible Tourism“ took place in Zagreb, Croatia, on 24-25 April 2017. It was organised with the support of the Interreg V-B ADRION 2014-2020 (Strategic project Facility Point) and the Ministry of Tourism of Croatia as an awareness raising and experience sharing initiative of the Pillar 4 on Sustainable Tourism of the EU Macro-regional Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR).
Ms. Željka Škarièiæ, PAP/RAC Director, was invited to participate in the Panel on “Promoting and Integrating Sustainability and SCP into Tourism Policies”. She made a presentation on ICZM as a framework for the integration of environmental sustainability concerns into tourism policies. On one hand, that was another good opportunity to promote the ICZM Protocol, its principles and objectives as well as the work done on the Regional Framework for ICZM. On the other, it was an occasion to deepen mutual support between the pan-Mediterranean initiatives of the Barcelona Convention and the Adriatic-Ionian macro-regional strategy with regard to one of the core themes to be dealt with in ICZM.
