The Croatian Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection coordinates activities on the preparation of the Croatian Coastal and Marine Strategy. After the initial documents regarding the marine environment have been prepared, those regarding the terrestrial part are now in preparation. It is being done within the “MedPartnership” project financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented in Croatia jointly by the Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection and UNEP/MAP’s Priority Actions Programme Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC), Split. In order to secure a wide participatory approach in course of preparation of the said documents of the Strategy, the Ministry and PAP/RAC, in collaboration with the coastal counties, have planned two series of workshops, the first in May-June and the second one in September/October 2015.
Two workshops have been organised already. The first was for the stakeholders from the Dubrovnik-Neretva and Split-Dalmatia Counties, and was organised in Split on April 27, while the second workshop, for Istria, Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Lika-Senj Counties, took place in Rijeka on May 5. The workshops were each attended by 60-odd participants from relevant governmental and non-governmental institutions, as well as other members of civil society. The third workshop is planned for June 1 in Zadar for the stakeholders from the Šibenik-Knin and Zadar Counties. Inputs from the workshops will be used for the finalisation of the documents the final drafts of which will be presented and discussed in the second series of workshops in the autumn.
