New Director Appointed to Lead PAP/RAC

PAP/RAC is pleased to announce the appointment of Daria Povh Škugor as its new Director.

Ms Povh Škugor has over two decades of experience in Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM), specifically focusing on climate change adaptation and coastal resilience in the Mediterranean for the past 15 years.

Before this appointment, she served as a Senior Programme Officer at PAP/RAC, coordinating the implementation of UNEP/MAP, GEF, EU, and other projects addressing local, regional, national, and coastal challenges across the Mediterranean.

“We are delighted to welcome Ms. Daria Povh Škugor, an esteemed ICZM expert and valued member of the UNEP/MAP family, as she joins our Executive Coordination Panel in her new role as the PAP/RAC director", said Tatjana Hema, UNEP/MAP Coordinator. “Her extensive experience and commitment to sustainable development make her an excellent choice to lead PAP/RAC as they continue to support Mediterranean countries in implementing the ICZM Protocol of the Barcelona Convention and reaching SDGs in the Mediterranean.

“I am honoured to be selected to lead the Centre in its important mission of supporting Mediterranean countries towards our joint vision: sustainable, resilient, healthy, attractive, diverse, and productive Mediterranean coasts!” the new Director said. “As we confront the triple planetary crisis and experience the consequences of climate change on our coasts, I want to emphasise that coastal populations must be the strongest advocates for action. There is no time to lose!”

Highlighting the future direction of the UNEP/MAP Regional Centre for Coastal Management, Ms Povh Škugor added, "PAP/RAC is developing, together with governments and all committed stakeholders, carefully planned, smart, and integrated solutions essential for addressing this complex crisis. We will continue to do our best to support the green transition for the Mediterranean coastal sustainability and resilience."

Daria Povh Skugor holds a Bachelor of Science in Coastal Economy from the University of Split and a Master of Science in Coastal Zone Management from the University of Ulster, UK. She spent a year with the University of Venice on a research project focused on the management of the Venetian lagoon.
