Syria will enter history for being the sixth and "enter-into-force" country for the ICZM Protocol! Namely, the President of the Syrian Arab Republic issued a Legislative Decree No. 85 dated 30 September 2010 for the ratification of the ICZM Protocol. According to Ms. Reem Abed Rabboh, MAP and former PAP/RAC National Focal Point for Syria, the ICZM Protocol ratification is believed to be a start, not an end point in taking real steps towards the Integrated Coastal Zone Management.
With this 6th ratification, the ICZM Protocol will enter into force in one month (according to Article 39) provided that Syria deposits the instrument of ratification to the depositary country, i.e. Spain. We are all looking forward to receiving this news from the depositary within this year.
