PAP/RAC’s contribution to building capacities for ICZM and MSP

17.05.2016

A two-day workshop on “Blue Growth and Integrated Coastal Zone Management as Sustainable Development Generators” was organised on 16 and 17 May 2016 by the Faculty of Maritime Studies of the University of Split within an EU co-funded project aimed at promoting the capacities of university professors in the field of maritime management and sustainable coastal development (http://www.pm21st.eu/). PAP/RAC was given the opportunity to present the Barcelona Convention system, its legal basis and the work that has been done in the field of ICZM and, more recently, MSP. Besides a general introduction on ICZM and MSP in the Mediterranean, two initiatives carried out in Croatia with the support of the UNEP/GEF MedPartnership project were presented: the recently adopted Coastal Plan for the Šibenik-Knin County, and the so-called “Coastal and Marine Strategy” that is being prepared for the Republic of Croatia.

Finally, to wrap-up and visually recall the complex coastal and marine problems and possible solutions, the video produced by CAMP Italy was shown.
