On 1 December 2011, the Assembly of Montenegro adopted the decision to ratify the ICZM Protocol to the Barcelona Convention. The conclusion of the Protocol by Montenegro brings the number of ratifications to 7.
A number of pre-CAMP activities facilitated the Protocol ratification. These included the preparation of an analysis of the implementation of Art. 8 of the ICZM Protocol to the spatial planning system in Montenegro and the preparation of expert guidelines for the Terms of Reference for the Montenegrin Coastal Area Spatial Plan (CASP). These assessments, as well as changes in terms of institutional and legislative framework for implementing the national environmental and spatial planning policy, led toward the necessary redefinition of the CAMP activities to be fully tailor-made for the ICZM Protocol implementation.
PAP/RAC welcomes the Assembly’s decision raising hopes that the Protocol ratification will contribute to the effective protection and sustainable management of this part of the Mediterranean coast.
