Mediterranean and Black Sea opportunities

Mr. Brian Shipman, consultant to PAP/RAC, attended the meeting of the ICZM Advisory Group of the Commission on the Protection of the Black Sea Against Pollution (Bucharest Convention) in Istanbul on the 4th October. On behalf of PAP/RAC Mr. Shipman presented the ICZM Guidelines currently under development in the Mediterranean to implement the ICZM Protocol, along with the early results of the ICZM Implementation Stocktake in the 26 countries of the Black Sea and Mediterranean carried out as part of the PEGASO Project. There is much parallel activity in the two seas and a number of opportunities for future collaboration. The ICZM Protocol for the Mediterranean in particular is seen as a successful model for other Regional Seas to follow.
