On 25 - 26 September in Marseilles, France, PAP/RAC representative participated to LabexMed workshop: "The Mediterranean Sea and Climate Change: common challenges and shared solutions". LabexMed is a laboratory of excellence coordinated by the University Aix-Marseille that brings together 16 interdisciplinary research units aiming to reinforce Mediterranean studies and foster new global partnerships. LabexMed in collaboration with MedPAN, Plan Bleu, SPA/RAC and MedECC, organized this workshop at the Museum of European and Mediterranean civilisations (MUCEM) in Marseille as a part of the Mediterranean Workshops Cycle, research programme in 2019.
PAP/RAC representative contributed to this workshop by sharing with participants a holistic view of the challenges that the Mediterranean sea and its coastal areas are facing, PAP/RAC experiences in dealing with climate change and its impacts, and how to adapt to it, as well as the presentation on marine spatial planning as an essential tool for the success of MPA-s.
More than 30 researchers exchanged knowledge on climate change monitoring indicators, on the role of MPAs in climate change adaptation and on the Mediterranean fisheries in a context of climate change. Participants agreed on the workshop conclusions, and the workshop ended with the public conference on a miracle among ecosystems - Posidonia meadow.
