An Extraordinary meeting of the PAP/RAC National Focal Points (FPs) was held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on 18 -19 October 2011. On the first day of the meeting the preliminary results of the Stocktaking on ICZM in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea were presented and discussed. This is an important initiative within the PEGASO EU FP7 project by which, first the state of institutional settings, governance issues, policies and legislation on ICZM were analysed on the basis of a questionnaire distributed to all Contracting Parties (CPs), and second the gaps and needs were extracted and links made to the draft Action Plan for the implementation of the ICZM Protocol (AP). Also, the Guidelines for the preparation of the National ICZM Strategies were presented that will be used to assist the CPs for the elaboration of their respective strategies. Very useful suggestions were provided by the participants for the improvement of the two documents.
On the second day of the meeting the draft AP was presented and discussed in detail. The overall structure and the contents of the document were well received by the FPs. Some concrete proposals were adopted at the end of the meeting as conclusions and recommendations including the better integration and elaboration of the Common Regional Framework for the ICZM in the Mediterranean. The improved version of the AP will be submitted to the MAP FPs for comment and approval at their meeting scheduled for the end of November, tentatively. This document, once adopted by the Ordinary meeting of the CPs in January 2012, will trace the MAP endeavours to implement the ICZM Protocol by the end of 2019.
