Feasibility Study for CAMP Italy

07.12.2008

On December 4, 2008, a meeting was held at the Italian Ministry of Environment with the objective to discuss the details of a Feasibility Study (FS) for CAMP Italy project and the process of its preparation. This CAMP is going to be the first one after the ICZM Protocol signature, as well as the first to test the Protocol provisions on the ground. Furthermore, this project will be specific also due to its structure, i.e. five regions are going to be involved in the project. So, we will not have just one CAMP area, but a multi-CAMP area project what will definitely be a challenge for the co-ordination of the project on the one side, and a good example of the application of the Protocol at sub-national level, on the other. Therefore, we should use this unique opportunity to show that CAMP is a good tool for a pilot implementation of the ICZM Protocol.

The CAMP Italy FS will be prepared on the basis of five regional FSs, and the final output is expected to be ready by autumn 2009. The decision to start preparatory activities for CAMP Italy was adopted by the Contracting Parties at their 15th Ordinary Meeting in Almeria, in January 2008.
