The Meeting of the Ecosystem Approach Correspondence Group on Monitoring (CORMON) for Coast and Hydrography took place on 15–16 July 2025 in Rome, Italy, advancing key steps toward improved coastal monitoring.
Building on previous work, representatives of 16 Contracting Parties, with support of PAP/RAC, INFO/RAC and invited experts, finalized updates to the Guiding Factsheets for Common Indicators 15 on hydrographic alterations and 16 on coastal artificialization. These updates will be incorporated into the upcoming IMAP revision. Further alignment was proposed for CI15’s and CI16’s Data Dictionary, and Data Standards, pending technical review by INFO/RAC.
The meeting endorsed a practical and open-source-based approach for assessing Good Environmental Status (GES) under Indicator 25 on Land Cover Change, tasking PAP/RAC with developing a concise, aligned guidance document.
While acknowledging the proposal for climate-related indicators under EO7 and EO8, participants called for more time and national consultations, with feedback expected later this year.
Finally, discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening links between CORMONs, CORESA, and the EcAp Coordination Group, and welcomed the EcAp Med PLUS project as pivotal in supporting national IMAP revisions and sharing best practices, particularly through the Lebanese experience.
