On June 15, 2015, the first meeting of the Steering Committee (CoPil) to the CAMP Var project was held in the premises of the County Council, in Toulon. The meeting was attended by the national, regional and local French partners, the national project leader and the PAP/RAC team. On this occasion, the partners reviewed the draft Action plan defined on the basis of the Terms of Reference for the CAMP project, as it was signed between the French government and UNEP/MAP. The meeting was an opportunity to present and explain the UNEP/MAP structure, the challenges of the implementation of the principles of the ICZM Protocol and the need for starting the CAMP Var project. Then, a rich and lively discussion was developed about the main themes and specific project activities and their prioritization which led to the validation of the Action plan of the project.
The CAMP Var was officially launched by an Inception workshop that was held at the University of Toulon, on June 17, in front of a wide range of stakeholders involved in the management of the coastal and maritime area of the Var County (60 odd people). The project partners presented the activities to be undertaken in the frame of the project, namely: the institutional diagnosis, a subjective mapping, the development of the ICZM application, the organisation of a “land and sea” forum, etc. The Inception workshop was held in parallel with the European Days of the Var County, and a joint field trip was organised to the coastal area of Coudoulière.
