On 23-24 May 2023, PAP/RAC hosted the Focal Points of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention to discuss the progress made in 2022-2023 and agree on the Programme of Work for the next biennium.
A detailed overview of the main projects which support the implementation of the ICZM Protocol was provided, including the ongoing CAMP projects, preparation of coastal plans for the Boka Kotorska Bay (Montenegro) and Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region (Morocco) in the framework of the GEF MedProgramme, and the IMAP Cluster on Coast and Hydrography.
PAP/RAC also presented a document on Marine Spatial Planning in the Mediterranean and the main elements of the Guidelines regarding Nature-based Solutions for adaptation to climate change in different coastal typologies. Both were greeted and appreciated by the representatives of the CPs, who contributed with their suggestions, offering additional support and exchange of know-how.
The activities proposed by PAP/RAC in the consolidated UNEP/MAP PoW for the biennium 2024-2025 were endorsed and recommended for further endorsement at the MAP Focal Point meeting that will take place in Istanbul on 12 - 15 September 2023.
