This year, PAP/RAC celebrates the 35th anniversary of its official establishment as one of the components of MAP. All these years, the Centre has been successfully addressing immediate problems of a developmental nature and their effects on the coastal environment and its resources, through practical activities in several fields. Thanks to the active collaboration with a wide range of partners and stakeholders in the Region, and its "multi-level" approach, PAP/RAC has induced swift progress towards the creation of a healthier Mediterranean environment, preserving its natural and cultural heritage, resting on the principle of sustainable development.
Today, more than ever before, PAP/RAC's mission is to provide assistance to Mediterranean countries, particularly in the implementation of the ICZM Protocol, which represents a major achievement in global terms in delivering a common agenda for a regional sea. In particular, the tasks assigned to it in Article 32 of the ICZM Protocol are in the core of PAP/RAC activities. ICZM remains the key tool for delivering a wide range of policies, strategies, plans and programmes in the coastal zone. By implementing the MAP - PAP/RAC Action Plan for the implementation of the Protocol PAP/RAC will use its excellence in ICZM to deal with the challenges of coastal zones in the years to come.
Join us in celebrating ICZM for better coastal zones of the Mediterranean!
