GEF Adriatic: Training workshops on IMAP indicators

Within the frame of the GEF Adriatic project, a series of training workshops on IMAP indicators were held for the Albanian and Montenegrin experts.

On 22 November 2018, a training workshop on IMAP Ecological Objective 10 (Marine Litter) was held in Podgorica, Montenegro, and hosted by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro. An international expert on marine litter presented an overview of EO10 Marine Litter which was discussed with the participants, as well as the details on its common indicators: CI 22, on the trends in the amount of litter washed ashore and/or deposited on coastlines; and CI 23, on the trends in the amount of litter in the water column and on the sea floor. This successful workshop was a first step in developing thematic monitoring programmes for Marine Litter by Albania and Montenegro.

Training workshops on IMAP Ecological Objectives 1 (Biodiversity), 2 (Non-Indigenous Species) and 7 (Hydrography) followed on 26 and 27 November. These workshops were held in Kotor, Montenegro, and hosted by the Institute of Marine Biology of Montenegro. On 26 November, the meeting discussed the details of EO1 Biodiversity (Marine reptiles and Sea birds components) and its indicators; guidance on the development of the thematic Monitoring Programme for these components, and outlines of the knowledge gap assessment. On 27 November, the same issues were discussed for Habitats component of EO1 Biodiversity, the EO2 Non-Indigenous Species and the EO7 Hydrography.
