On 18 March 2011, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration organised, in co-operation with the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro, a Round Table on Environmental Protection. Since Montenegro chairs the Adriatic - Ionian Initiative, the meeting was held in Podgorica, Montenegro.
The meeting considered the implementation of a joint, transboundary sustainable development project in the countries of the Adriatic and Ionian region as part of a support towards the development of a Strategy for the Adriatic - Ionian Basin. Possible synergies in actions of the Adriatic - Ionian countries were focused on ICZM, green economy, prevention and response to maritime pollution, protected areas network (marine and terrestrial), and alike, all as part of the Adriatic – Ionian Initiative. The participants underlined the importance of PAP/RAC in providing technical support to the Countries in that process.
