GEF ADRIATIC: virtual training on assessment of good environmental status regarding marine litter in Montenegro

The first ever attempt to assess the good environmental status  (GES) for marine litter in Montenegro was introduced by Ms Milica Mandić  of the Institute of Marine Biology in Kotor within the frame of the GEF  Adriatic project. The assessment of GES was shared with the interested  country representatives from the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning  and Urbanism, the Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro, the  Public Enterprise “Morsko Dobro”, the “Green Home” NGO, and the German  Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) project. The  participants were provided with detailed information on: important  policies on marine litter in Montenegro; pressures and impacts related  to marine litter; methodology of GES assessment for all marine litter  indicators; scales of assessment; the current state regarding marine  litter in Montenegro (in comparison to threshold values); and proposed  management measures for tackling marine litter and needs for further  development.
