The UNEP/MAP Working Group on Marine Spatial Planning held its 6th meeting on 14 October 2026 in Split and online. PAP/RAC, as Secretariat, organised it back-to-back with the Mediterranean session of the EU Member States Expert Group on Maritime Spatial Planning (MSEG), bringing the Mediterranean and EU MSP communities together.
Members reviewed the Background document and the Strategic priorities and Roadmap 2028–2035, to be submitted to COP 25 of the Barcelona Convention in Croatia in 2027. Shaped together with the Contracting Parties, the Roadmap sets out seven recommendations at three levels: stronger regional dialogue, tools and knowledge sharing across the Mediterranean; support to national MSP processes; and pilot actions across borders.
Building on the work of the Working Group, and to support a more coherent approach to MSP across the Mediterranean, PAP/RAC will bring MSP experts together in a regional workshop in 2027 and prepare Mediterranean MSP guidelines that link coastal and marine planning.
