Application of ecosystem approach

PAP/RACC hosted a meeting of MAP Secretariat on the application of the ecosystem approach (ECAP) on 24 September 2008. The meeting was a follow-up of the conclusions of the Second meeting of government-designated experts that took place in July 2008. The objectives of the Split meeting were to discuss the preparation of: the assessment reports for the four areas the Mediterranean sea is divided to; the socio-economic analysis; the communication and public awareness plan; the planning document and the case studies; as well as the assessment methodologies.

The tasks were distributed among MAP components and the budget was allocated for individual activities.  The overall coordinating role will be under the management of the MAP Coordinator, whereas RACs will jointly contribute to the implementation of the demanding tasks crucial for the initiation of the ECAP in the Mediterranean. The implementation will start once the funds are made available by the European Commission.
