The workshop on the use of strategic coastal planning and management to reinforce awareness of and preparedness for tsunamis and other sea-level related hazards was held at the premises of UNESCO in Paris from 5 to 7 December 2011. The objectives of the workshop were to sensitize civil protection and coastal managers on the use of strategic land-use planning for strengthening preparedness for tsunamis and other sea-level related hazards in the context of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM), and to improve communication among different actors in preparedness.
Experts from 10 countries of the project region attended the workshop presenting case studies from different areas of the region. Ms. Daria Povh Škugor, PAP/RAC Programme Officer, presented the activities and results of the MedPartnership project, as well as the new project on integrating climate variability and change into national strategies to implement the ICZM Protocol. She led the working group on awareness which produced the recommendations for coastal managers.
