style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CAMP\u00a0Lebanon\u00a0focused\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0southern\u00a0coastal\u00a0region\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0country,\u00a0covering\u00a0approximately\u00a0615 km\u00b2,\u00a0or\u00a0about\u00a06%\u00a0of\u00a0Lebanon\u2019s\u00a0total\u00a0land\u00a0area.\u00a0The\u00a0coastal\u00a0stretch\u00a0extends\u00a085 km,\u00a0accounting\u00a0for 33%\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0national\u00a0coastline,\u00a0from\u00a0Khaldeh\u00a0to\u00a0Sour\u00a0(Tyre).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0project\u00a0area\u00a0was\u00a0defined\u00a0at\u00a0two\u00a0levels:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">National level: the broader coastal area south of Beirut\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Local level: three key municipalities \u2013 Damour, Sarafand, and Naqoura\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This area holds significant ecological, agricultural, and socio-economic value but faces intense urbanisation pressures, as well as a wide range of interlinked environmental and governance issues:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Absence of a national coastal management plan and legal framework\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fragmented institutional responsibilities and outdated regulations\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Weak civil service capacity and reliance on a top-down planning model\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Unregulated industrial expansion and tourism development\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Loss of agricultural land and degradation of woodlands\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sea and freshwater pollution from untreated waste and solid waste dumps\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Air pollution in urban areas\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Poor coordination of external aid and lack of integrated strategies\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Limited public participation and technical capacity at the local level\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Key\u00a0objectives<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0project\u00a0aimed\u00a0to:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Support integrated coastal area and river basin management (ICAM and IRBM)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Develop legal, institutional, and strategic frameworks for ICAM in Lebanon\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Align environmental protection with socio-economic development goals\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Build technical and institutional capacity at national and local levels\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Promote community engagement and participatory planning\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Provide tools and strategies to address priority coastal and urban challenges\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Results and\u00a0outputs<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Integrated\u00a0Coastal\u00a0Area\u00a0Management\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Data\u00a0and\u00a0Information\u00a0Management\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Integrated\u00a0Water Resources Management\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Marine\u00a0Conservation\u00a0Area\u00a0Development\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Integrated\u00a0River\u00a0Basin\u00a0Management\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sustainable\u00a0Tourism\u00a0Development\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Urban Management\u00a0and\u00a0Sustainable\u00a0Development\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Participatory\u00a0Programme\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Among\u00a0the\u00a0outputs,\u00a0the\u00a0following\u00a0have\u00a0been\u00a0produced:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span 400\">Drafting\u00a0of\u00a0two\u00a0major\u00a0national\u00a0policy\u00a0documents:\u00a0a\u00a0legal\u00a0framework\u00a0for\u00a0Integrated\u00a0Coastal\u00a0Area\u00a0Management (ICAM)\u00a0and\u00a0a\u00a0National ICAM\u00a0Strategy\u00a0for\u00a0Lebanon<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Strengthened\u00a0capacity\u00a0through\u00a0training,\u00a0workshops,\u00a0field\u00a0visits,\u00a0and\u00a0on-the-job\u00a0learning\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Active\u00a0participation\u00a0of\u00a0local\u00a0committees\u00a0on water,\u00a0waste,\u00a0land-use,\u00a0and\u00a0tourism\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Systemic\u00a0and\u00a0Prospective\u00a0Sustainability\u00a0Analysis\u00a0(SPSA)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carrying\u00a0Capacity\u00a0Assessment\u00a0(CCA) for\u00a0tourism<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Integrated\u00a0land-use management\u00a0and\u00a0Local\u00a0Agenda 21\u00a0principles\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Promotion\u00a0of\u00a0links\u00a0between\u00a0cultural\u00a0heritage\u00a0and\u00a0sustainable\u00a0development\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Identification\u00a0of\u00a0policy,\u00a0technical,\u00a0legal,\u00a0and\u00a0administrative\u00a0solutions\u00a0for\u00a0critical\u00a0gaps\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Engagement\u00a0with\u00a0funding\u00a0agencies\u00a0to\u00a0develop\u00a0project\u00a0proposals\u00a0based\u00a0on CAMP\u00a0outputs\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Follow-up<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Several follow-up initiatives and proposals have been developed to continue the work started under CAMP Lebanon, reinforcing its long-term impact on environmental governance and sustainable development in the country.
