{"id":8161,"date":"2026-03-31T07:26:41","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T07:26:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.paprac.org\/projects\/italy\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T06:12:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T06:12:08","slug":"italy","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"https:\/\/paprac.org\/hr\/projects\/italy\/","title":{"rendered":"Italy"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Project\u00a0overview<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CAMP\u00a0Italy\u00a0was\u00a0implemented\u00a0in\u00a0three\u00a0coastal\u00a0regions\u2014Emilia-Romagna,\u00a0Sardinia,\u00a0and\u00a0Tuscany\u2014selected\u00a0following\u00a0a\u00a0national\u00a0Feasibility\u00a0Study\u00a0involving\u00a0all\u00a0Italian\u00a0coastal\u00a0regions.\u00a0These\u00a0areas\u00a0represent\u00a0diverse\u00a0coastal\u00a0challenges\u00a0and\u00a0opportunities\u00a0and\u00a0were\u00a0chosen\u00a0for\u00a0their\u00a0potential\u00a0to\u00a0serve\u00a0as\u00a0models\u00a0for\u00a0integrated\u00a0management at\u00a0both\u00a0regional\u00a0and\u00a0national\u00a0levels.\u00a0Among the key challenges, the project focused on\u00a0several governance-related issues, such as:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lack\u00a0of\u00a0a\u00a0central\u00a0authority\u00a0or\u00a0dedicated\u00a0coastal\u00a0management\u00a0body\u00a0&#8211; absence\u00a0of\u00a0a\u00a0national\u00a0coastal\u00a0law\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fragmented\u00a0governance\u00a0across\u00a0sectors\u00a0(e.g.\u00a0environment,\u00a0agriculture,\u00a0fisheries,\u00a0tourism,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">infrastructure)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sectoral\u00a0implementation\u00a0of\u00a0coastal\u00a0management\u00a0with\u00a0limited\u00a0integration\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These\u00a0institutional\u00a0challenges\u00a0called\u00a0for a\u00a0coordinated,\u00a0cross-sectoral\u00a0approach\u00a0in\u00a0line\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0ICZM\u00a0Protocol\u00a0and\u00a0EU ICZM\u00a0Recommendation\u00a0(2002).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Key\u00a0objectives<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The project aimed to promote national ICZM strategies and test integrated coastal management practices in a multi-regional context. Its strategic goals included:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Implementing the ICZM Protocol and EU ICZM principles\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Improving coordination across institutions and governance levels\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Managing marine uses (e.g. seabed mining, fish farming)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Preserving cultural and environmental heritage and landscapes\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Diversifying tourism based on environmental and cultural values\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Restoring and protecting coastal ecosystems, especially around river mouths\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mapping territorial assets and challenges to guide future development\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Defining scenario-based policy approaches to address evolving coastal pressures\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Results\u00a0and\u00a0outputs<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0project\u00a0was\u00a0structured\u00a0around\u00a0two\u00a0main\u00a0components.
