{"id":8095,"date":"2026-03-31T07:29:39","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T07:29:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.paprac.org\/projects\/co-evolve\/"},"modified":"2026-09-08T10:44:18","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T10:44:18","slug":"co-evolve","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"https:\/\/paprac.org\/hr\/projekti\/co-evolve\/","title":{"rendered":"CO-EVOLVE"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Partnership<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Region of East Macedonia and Thrace<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Regione Emilia-Romagna<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Po Delta Veneto<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Port of Valencia<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">H\u00e9rault Department<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">RERA SD<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DUNEA<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">UNEP\/MAP Priority Actions Programme Regional Activity Centre (PAP\/RAC)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">REMTH and other regional and institutional partners<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Key objectives<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CO-EVOLVE aimed to strengthen the sustainability of coastal and maritime tourism by improving understanding, planning and cooperation across the Mediterranean.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In particular, it aimed to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">analyse threats and enabling factors for sustainable tourism at the Mediterranean scale<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">promote ICZM\/MSP-based approaches to tourism planning<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">support the development of sustainable tourism strategies in pilot areas<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">improve coordination between sectors and governance levels<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">enhance the use of tools, indicators and methodologies for assessing tourism sustainability<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">strengthen cooperation and knowledge transfer across the region<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Main results<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CO-EVOLVE generated a comprehensive analytical and practical basis for improving the sustainability of tourism in Mediterranean coastal areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The main results include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mediterranean-scale analysis of threats and enabling factors for sustainable tourism development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">development and testing of ICZM\/MSP-based tourism planning approaches in pilot areas<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">preparation of tourism-driven action plans integrating environmental, social and economic considerations<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">application and adaptation of the European Tourism Indicators System (ETIS) to assess sustainability<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">strengthened cooperation and knowledge exchange across regions and initiatives<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">development of transferability plans supporting replication of results at regional and Mediterranean scales<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Role of PAP\/RAC<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Within the CO-EVOLVE project, PAP\/RAC played a central role across multiple components, contributing to both analytical and implementation phases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In particular, PAP\/RAC contributed to key outputs on governance and enabling factors for sustainable tourism, including leading the synthesis of enabling factors and preparing analytical reports. It also coordinated capacity-building activities, including training programmes based on ICZM\/MSP approaches, and supported pilot areas through advisory inputs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">PAP\/RAC further led the transferability component of the project, ensuring that results were effectively disseminated and adapted beyond pilot areas, both at regional and Mediterranean scales.
