{"id":5105,"date":"2022-09-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/paprac.org\/news\/pap-rac-team-lectures-at-the-syrian-virtual-university\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T07:28:05","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T07:28:05","slug":"pap-rac-team-lectures-at-the-syrian-virtual-university","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/paprac.org\/hr\/novosti\/pap-rac-team-lectures-at-the-syrian-virtual-university\/","title":{"rendered":"PAP\/RAC team lectures at the Syrian Virtual University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A series of lectures on ICZM and MSP started yesterday (31 August 2022) for the master\u2019s students of the Syrian Virtual University (<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.svuonline.org\/\">SVU<\/a><\/u>). This cooperation between the <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.paprac.org\/\">PAP\/RAC<\/a><\/u> and the SVU has been agreed and defined by an MoU. It is related to the Master\u2019s Programme of Qualification and Specialization in Integrated Management of Natural Resources. The PAP\/RAC team contributes with seven two-hour lectures to the third semester focussed on Integrated Management of Natural Resources. Ms. Reem Abedabboh, the former PAP\/RAC National Focal Point for Syria, is the course coordinator and we have jointly selected the topics of the most relevance for the students. These are the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ICZM: general introduction and the <u>ICZM Protocol<\/u><\/li>\n<li>ICZM process: implementation and case studies<\/li>\n<li><u><a href=\"https:\/\/msp.iczmplatform.org\/\">Marine Spatial Planning<\/a><\/u>: Introduction to MSP: conceptual framework; planning steps; practical examples<\/li>\n<li>Land-Sea Interactions: importance, concept, integration into MSP<\/li>\n<li>Development and implementation of the Integrated Monitoring and Assessment Programme (<u><a href=\"https:\/\/wedocs.unep.org\/bitstream\/handle\/20.500.11822\/6090\/16ig22_28_22_07_eng.pdf\">IMAP<\/a><\/u>) for safeguarding the Mediterranean Sea and coast<\/li>\n<li>Climate Change and ICZM: background, need for integration of CC into ICZM\/MSP<\/li>\n<li>Adaptation to CC through ICZM: best practices, implementation of projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The assignments for the students will follow and the PAP\/RAC team will use its experience from the <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medopen.org\/\">MedOpen<\/a><\/u> advanced virtual course on ICZM on how to structure the assignments and their assessment once delivered by the students.<\/p>\n<p>PAP\/RAC is particularly proud to have this opportunity, in particular due to the difficult situation that Syria faces for more than a decade now. It is worth mentioning that Syria ratified the <a href=\"http:\/\/paprac.org\/iczm-protocol\">ICZM Protocol<\/a> in February 2011.
