The 14th meeting of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development (MCSD) was held in Budva (Montenegro), from 30 May to 1 June 2011. Opened by Montenegro\u2019s Environment Minister and the MAP Co-ordinator, it gathered some 25 participants representing the Mediterranean rim countries\u2019 governments, the civil society actors and some international organisations.<\/p>\n
This meeting essentially aimed at:<\/p>\n
\u2022 discussing how the promoting of a green economy strategy, as well as a more effective institutional framework, could contribute to MAP strategy and priorities, and to the working programme and organisation;<\/p>\n
\u2022 facilitating the reflection on the contribution to the Mediterranean for the next United Nations Global Conference on sustainable development (Rio+20), planned for June 2012. The ICZM Protocol was underlined as one of the major achievements in the Mediterranean region. This unique legal instrument should therefore be exploited for its contribution to sustainable development and be promoted and shared with other Regional Seas on the globe;<\/p>\n
\u2022 discussing the Commission\u2019s future directions in view of the ongoing assessment of the MSSD\u2019s preliminary recommendations, including climate change adaptation.<\/p>\n
