Declaration adopted by Coastal Commission

15.12.2011

The Coastal Commission (CC) for the CAMP Levante de Almeria, Spain, met on 13 December 2011 and adopted the Declaration by which it gave a full support to the CAMP project and its legal context, demonstrating also the political commitment to take the responsibility for the implementation of the results of the CAMP once finalised and agreed upon. Four out of eight mayors and two vice mayors participated personally at the meeting what clearly showed the support to and interest in the CAMP project from the political establishment of the CAMP area.

In addition to representatives of eight municipalities, the CC is also composed of representatives of the Regional government, Provincial council, Association of the municipalities and the State Ministry. This is an important body established in the framework of the CAMP in order to provide institutional co-ordination and social participation. Most of all, the CC is created as a decision making and executive body for the actions and measures needed to implement the proposals derived from the CAMP. The meeting also nominated the Chairman and the vice Chairman of the Commission.

Prior to the adoption of the Declaration, a detailed progress report was given by the CAMP Co-ordinator, supported by the report of the Chairman of the Coastal Council, which is a broader participatory body within the CAMP framework. The international context, namely, the link of the CAMP to the ICZM Protocol and in particular the expectations of the MAP from this project, was underlined in the introductory speech by the PAP/RAC Deputy Director. A number of media representatives took part in the press conference prior to the beginning of the CC meeting.
