Croatian authorities and PAP joined under MedPartnership

31.01.2013

Following the completion of the analysis of the Croatian legislation in relation to the ICZM Protocol and its presentation at the MedPartnership Regional Workshop in Zagreb, the Croatian authorities expressed their interest to continue working with PAP/RAC and UNEP/MAP. Namely, Croatia ratified the ICZM Protocol on 12 October 2012 and would like to push for its implementation.

The first task for Croatia would be the development of the national ICZM Strategy. Since Croatia has been preparing its Marine Strategy, as required by the EU MSFD, the Croatian Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection decided to join the two strategic initiatives and to prepare a single document for its Adriatic Region – a Marine and Coastal Strategy. How to realise this initiative, together with the launching of the new climate variability and change pilot demonstration in Croatia, were the topics of a meeting between PAP/RAC and the representatives of the Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection and Environment Agency, held in Zagreb on 24 January.
